Victorian Addition
An addition to the historic Alfred S. Mattson House, this project carefully expands a stately 1890 Queen Anne Victorian home listed with the local historical society. The design adds approximately 1,500 sf of new living space to the existing 4,600 sf home, creating an in-law suite and guest addition while maintaining the character, elegance, and clarity of the original structure. A new porte cochere, designed in keeping with Victorian-era additions, provides a gracious entry while complementing the home’s historic architecture.
A connecting veranda and roof balcony enhance the relationship between indoor and outdoor spaces, opening to a large backyard and pool while respecting the historic rear façade. The design thoughtfully integrates modern functionality with the home’s architectural heritage, ensuring that new spaces feel harmonious, welcoming, and true to the Victorian aesthetic.
